Y2K blues

January 1st, 2000 was so promising. An all-nighter with friends and crowds. The friendly-to-us Pope was months away from visiting Israel. Israelis and Palestinians were sometimes getting along. We made it through the Lewinsky Impeachment and all agreed that Microsoft was the problem. Young people convened board meetings, a Microsoft MCSE certificate was worth more than a degree. Monthly losses were call burn rates.

In the spring, the economic bubble burst. In the summer, we offered them a state and got war. By 2001, the US was at war. The world's hurtin'.

Some good comes out of it. I spend a lot of the down-time with friends in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. At the beach, bars, the Old City of Jerusalem, and in our homes. The recession gave young Internet enterpreneurs a chance to sit back and think about things besides our projects. I learned how to live better since 2000.

But when it comes back, I'll never forget the years our lives were on pause. Don't you miss the excitement of 1995-2000? Whatever you were doing, it was cool and moving fast. There ain't no cure for the Y2K blues!
