Official cds and Videotapes

A hole in my education. Live 1966 is my favorite Dylan show. It has a bit of history behind it. 1965-1966 is when Dylan first went electric. Some of the folk music crowd was shocked. At this show, a fan yells out, "Judas." Dylan responds, "I don't believe you, you're a liar." And tells his band, "play fucking loud." They do and its the best version of Like A Rolling Stone that you'll ever hear. I can play this cd all day. Live 1975 is from the famous Rolling Thunder Revue Tour of 1974-1975. Dylan is joined by Joan Baez and others on this tour. This sounds much better than the bootlegs, but you can't get around the fact that its missing The Band and others who joined Bob on stage. Licensing problems - that's why music collectors listen to bootlegs. To get a complete picture of Rolling Thunder Revue, you need this official cd + a few full-concert bootlegs. Bob gave "stage time" to Joan Baez and The Band - very cool of him! The Best Of is nice, but I need to get more original albums. Having this site lets me see what I'm missing.

Highway 61 Revisited

Highway 61 Revisited isn't Dylan's first album - its the moment he went electric. Every song here is legendary. It sounds just as fresh a generation later.

Dylan and The Dead

A must-have cd for any fan of both of 'em. Too bad it wasn't done in the 60's or 70's. Good selection of songs and artwork befitting the event.

Blonde On Blonde and Planet Waves

Blonde On Blonde opens with Rainy Day Women #12 & #35. Just Like A Woman is the most popular song on this cd. Visions Of Johanna and Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat are my other two favorites here. This was Dylan's follow-up to Highway 61. Planet Waves was released in 1974 and has my favorite Dylan song - Forever Young.

Bob Dylan bootlegs

Bob's Boots is the place to go for info on Dylan bootlegs. There's a lot out there. My favorite period is 1965-1975. I listen to those shows a lot. Another piece of 60's history that everyone should hear. One of the studio bootlegs has Dylan singing the song "Cupid!" But don't do anything until you first hear the Live 1966 official cd. That's when Dylan started to make sense to me. Folk Rogue is an important cd - it has Bob Dylan's complete Newport Festival shows of 1964 and 1965. You can see more on Dylan's Israel shows here.
